Frequently Asked Questions

When should I start shopping for my gown?
We recommend starting to shop for your gown nine to twelve months before your wedding.

How long does it take to make a gown?
Bridal Couture’s wedding gowns are hand made by artisans skilled in the couture tradition. Thus, they take about 16-20 weeks (4-5 months) to arrive from the designer’s atelier. However, a dress could show up two weeks after it is ordered, as well as taking up to 8 months to arrive from certain companies. The ship dates we are given are TENTATIVE, and NOT in-store dates. In order to avoid a rush fee, plan to purchase your wedding gown at least 6 months before your wedding day to allow for dress to arrive in the salon and for alterations. That being said, most designers offer a rush order for a fee. Rush arrangements can be discussed at the time of ordering your gown.

Bridesmaid's gowns and mother’s gowns take 14-18 weeks (3½ - 4½ months) to order and arrive at the salon. It is important for you to allow enough time to try on and choose your dress, so you might want to begin your search at least 6 months prior to the wedding date.

Bridal Couture of Birmingham and Bridal Couture of Plymouth also offer a wide selection of stock gowns that are available for immediate purchase.

Do I need an appointment to try on gowns?
We can always give you better service if you call and schedule a time that is convenient for you. However, please feel free to stop in for a visit if you are in the area, as you are always welcome in our salons.

What is a Trunk Show?
A ‘Trunk Show’ is an in-store event featuring a Bridal Designer showcasing their current line. It gives you the unique opportunity to work with the designer of their representative in person while viewing their collection. There may be special pricing promotions as well as custom changes to gowns that may not be available at other times. For a list of upcoming Trunk Shows, click on our ‘Special Events’ page.
